The son of two musicians, Michael Loren Lavalle was raised on all genres of American Music. Matched with a profound knowledge of musics from Brazil, he has become an in-demand bassist and multi-instrumentalist on NYC’s creative music scene. On tour and on records, he has worked with a vast and diverse array of artists including the platinum selling Italian artist Carmen Consoli, the Grammy nominated Emily King, the Hip Hop phenomenons 88 Keys and Om’mas Keith, as well as Rap Stars Jim Jones and Talib Kweli. In 2009 Michael co-produced and and played on the album “Edge of Everything” by Greta’s Bakery which was released by Decca/Universal Music Group.
As a member of the Brazilian Bluegrass band Matuto, Michael has traveled to 9 countries in Africa and the Middle East as a cultural ambassador under the auspices of the American Music Abroad program. Michael subsequently produced the record for Matuto, “Africa Suite”, inspired by the trip.
In 2015 Michael released “Zabumbananas” with Vitor Gonçalves and James Shipp, produced by Christina Courtin and engineered by Robin McMillan.
In addition to his performance career Michael is the resident audio engineer at the Weill Music Institute at Carnegie hall, where his is also a teaching artist, working with inner city youth in NY.
Currently Michael co-leads the group Pilot Violet with singer/composer Christina Courtin and resides in Brooklyn, NY.
